TEACHER INTERVIEW
https://youtu.be/jHWXaNpaWgU
Above I have linked an interview with the teacher I interviewed. My two questions where:
1. What is your teaching philosophy?
2. What is your classroom management view/ philosophy?
I learned from interviewing this teacher that a teacher is there to help the students and that should be a priority. I also learned that it is very important to consider the community you are serving as an educator when planning your lesson plans and units. I learned that an effective teacher should always be fair and should build a relationship with their students. An educator should invest time on getting to know the students in order to teach more effectively. The teacher I interviewed also pointed out how important and challenging behavior management can be, but the educator also emphasized that with clear rules , expectations and consistency a good classroom behavior can take place. The teacher also stated how important it is to make the students feel welcome and part of the classroom by building a classroom community by making the students part of decision making by simple action such as making them part during classroom rules making.
I can interrelate the philosophy of this teacher with the ideas presented on chapter thirteen in page 528. The chapter presents us with a numbered list on how to create positive relationships with students. It states that we should get to know each student individually to better serve and teach them. It states how food can help make connections. The teacher I interviewed made a statement in how she let her students eat in the classroom, because she also did and because many of her students worked overnight and she was aware that they might be coming straight from work. what does the teacher statement tells me ? It tells me that, she knew her students individually, she knew their story and she was sensible to it. The teacher pointed out how other teachers did not allow food in the classrooms but she did. This simple act of giving permission to the students to bring food gave the students a sense of community, belonging and acceptance.
In chapter thirteen, page 530 it gives guidelines on imposing penalties. The guidelines states that a teacher should stay calm and impose penalties Privately. I was able to connect this information to the interview when Mrs Fret stated, that when she first started teaching she would stop in the middle of the class to address consequences. Later she developed another system that worked better such as the one mentioned in the book. She would write down names on the board and address the consequences in private after she was doing with her lesson.
I found it very interesting to connect the readings from the books to a real teacher and her believes on teaching.
