MY VIEW ON EDUCATION
“Teach young people early on that in diversity there is beauty and there is strength” Maya Angelou. Sensitivity towards diversity as a teacher is necessary and essential, in order for effective connection to take place between the teacher and the students. Diversity in teaching can be very broad. It includes but is not limited to gender, age, special needs, social status, sexual preference and ethnic background. An educator who is well informed and sensible will intend to make students feel the empowerment, and gain self-assurance of their persona while giving a sense of belonging and acceptance regardless of any labels given by society. Children should be able to enjoy education, but in order for this to take place a child must first be able to see themselves in the classroom as part of it. Children must be able to see their own story been taken into consideration within a classroom in order to connect, enjoy and feel understood.
As a future educator I aspire to positively impact the leaning of many young learners. I believe that we as individuals develop our very own way of teaching but many of our fundamental ideas can be very similar. An educator should teach intentionally and with sensitivity towards the students. I believe in a teaching philosophy that involves discipline with a loving heart, structure, one that builds not only on knowledgeable students in the books, but also one that can effectively interact with others in a respectful manner. I embrace a philosophy that cares for the well being of a child as a whole, one that considers each area of development as of high importance. A school as well as a classroom should both be encouraging and of motivation for a child.
When it comes to the Pioneers of Education I come to embrace ideas of several of these education developers. Horace Mann is the pioneer of American Public School Education, he believed in free public education for all children and the need of free public libraries. Friedrich Froebel was focused in Early Childhood Education. Gardner approached education with a theory of multiple intelligence's. Eric Erickson elaborated a psycho-social theory of development that highlights how certain social events can impact the different stages of human development. I personally like to take a little from each pioneer for I believe that they have amazing ideas that can be used as an educator for a good function of a classroom as a whole. I personally found , Erik Erickson's theory of development to be very appealing. This theory has not only helped me understand my own development but that of my children and future students.
The theory has made it evident and transparent to why I felt a certain way during these specific stages in my life. I have come to understand that each crisis faced on every specific stage was an aid to successfully transition into the next stage. I was impacted in a very positive way with the theory. I came to understand each specific crisis I went through ,during some crucial stages in my life. The theory also impacted me in a very favorable way and served as a gateway to better understand my future students and the stages and or crisis they could or might face.
